In the modern electronic manufacturing sector, Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems play a crucial role in detecting various defects that may occur in the manufacturing process of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), such as gaps, short circuits, and open circuits. As order patterns shift from large quantities of few varieties to flexible production of many varieties in smaller quantities, the complexity of inspections has significantly increased. To address these challenges, MiTAC is committed to developing models with minimal data to reduce false positives and has successfully deployed an AOI Defect Re-Inspection System.
This success case highlights the application of MiTAC’s AOI Defect Re-Inspection System at two major enterprises: NEXCOM International Co., Ltd. and Pronology Services Inc. (PSI-TWN). Located in Guishan, Taoyuan, and Wugu, New Taipei City, respectively, both companies operate advanced Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production lines focused on PCB manufacturing. NEXCOM primarily produces IPC and server-related products, while PSI-TWN specializes in networking products. Regardless of the product type, both companies rely on AOI defect detection systems to ensure product quality and reliability.
MiTAC's AOI Defect Re-Inspection System has been successfully implemented on the production lines of NEXCOM and PSI-TWN. These systems collect data on both good and defective products from the AOI machines, allowing for the establishment of precise models and analytical tools. These models enable rapid inference and analysis of potential defects in subsequent production runs, significantly reducing false positive rates and the workload of manual re-inspections. In the past, due to a zero-tolerance policy on defective product outflow, many good products were often misclassified as defective, resulting in a relatively high false positive rate. However, MiTAC's new technology and system effectively resolved this issue, achieving a reduction in false positive rates of up to 80%. This accomplishment not only enhanced production efficiency but also ensured improved product quality and customer satisfaction.
This success case demonstrates MiTAC's exceptional capabilities in advanced technology application and industrial automation. MiTAC has not only assisted NEXCOM and PSI-TWN in overcoming existing technological challenges but has also injected new efficiency and accuracy into their production processes. Moving forward, MiTAC remains dedicated to technological innovation, providing advanced solutions to global clients, and advancing the processes of industrial intelligence and lean manufacturing.
The successful application of MiTAC AOI Defect Re-Inspection System at NEXCOM and PSI-TWN exemplifies the advantages of technological innovation and industry collaboration. We look forward to partnering with more clients in the future to explore and achieve new heights in industrial automation and smart manufacturing.
