The inauguration of the Smart Fishing Port in Shen'ao

深澳漁港

On the afternoon of June 6th, the New Taipei City Government hosted the "Shen'ao Fishermen's Association 70th Anniversary Celebration" and the inauguration ceremony of the Smart Fishing Port. Mayor Hou You-yi of New Taipei City presided over the event, personally operating a 55-inch smart information display and providing guidance on the intelligentization system equipment at the fishing port. The New Taipei City Government stated that, following its upgrade, it is committed to the transformation of fishing ports. In addition to continuously strengthening the hardware functions of Shen'ao Fishing Port, this year, the city has integrated entertainment fishing vessels in the port area and temporary water dance performances. The public is invited to explore the scenic beauty of Shen'ao, enjoying the consecutive holidays.

Located to the north of Shen'ao Village in Rueifang District, Shen'ao Fishing Port boasts extensive hinterlands and is surrounded by numerous rocky coastal areas, making it an excellent spot for rock fishing. Renowned throughout Taiwan for its leisure sea fishing, it has become the fishing port with the highest number of sea fishing boats in the country. Whether heading to the rich fishing grounds around Keelung Islet or the northern islands (such as Flower Vase Islet, Pengchia Islet, and Cotton Island), one can easily find experienced boat operators at Shen'ao Fishing Port.

Shen'ao Fishing Port serves as a pivotal departure point for sea fishing boats, offering chartered trips for admiring Shen'ao's Elephant Trunk Rock and the Battleship Rock at Bitou Cape. The scenic area is situated behind the fishing port along the beautiful promontory of Shen'ao Cape. This locale features unique rock formations shaped by coastal erosion, including mushroom-shaped rocks, honeycomb rocks, and a landscape rivaling that of Yehliu. One of the most spectacular sights is the hidden gem of Shen'ao Cape, the Elephant Trunk Rock with its sea-eroded arch. Therefore, the New Taipei City Fisheries Department has strategically introduced emerging technologies, actively promoting the concept of a "Smart Fishing Port" to integrate local natural resources and culture, fostering the development of tourism ventures.

Sammy Chiu, the president of MiTAC Advance has collaborated this year on implementing a smart application project in Shen'ao Fishing Port in Rueifang District, New Taipei City. The primary focus has been on replacing traditional streetlights around the fishing port, integrating the application of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, and establishing a remote management platform to enhance the energy efficiency of port lighting and improve the quality of recreational experiences for visitors.

The project, completed in early May of this year, integrates various services, including smart streetlights, intelligent billboards, mini-weather stations, and other emerging technology applications. This comprehensive approach aims to tangibly realize the concept of a "Smart Fishing Port," integrating port platform services, optimizing resource utilization, and achieving efficient port management. It serves as a demonstration site for New Taipei City's subsequent promotion of "Smart Fishing Port."

The project's principal investigator, Director Lin Yiru, stated that there are three parking lots in the Shen'ao Fishing Port area. In order to provide excellent lighting throughout the port during the night, MiTAC has introduced smart streetlights to the parking lots, dockside, and warehouse areas, totaling 92 streetlights. These streetlights have been upgraded to LED lights, with each light head equipped with a wireless light controller. This allows each light to be independently controlled for on, off, or dimming. In addition to achieving energy savings through scheduled control, the system promptly notifies administrators in case of malfunctioning streetlights, reducing the maintenance time for faulty lights.

Due to the substantial influx of tourists to Shen'ao Fishing Port, two smart information display boards have been installed in two parking lots. Utilizing cloud connectivity, these boards present relevant tourism information to assist in tourist guidance. Administrators can remotely update and broadcast promotional advertisements for local fishing associations on these boards, providing greater flexibility and diversity in the content displayed on the smart boards.

In addition, by integrating the local micro-weather stations, the smart information boards can instantly display the current weather conditions in the area. This allows the public to directly access real-time weather information, enhancing the sharing of dynamic port information and the interactive enjoyment of visitors. Combined with nearby tourist attractions, this achieves the full utilization of diverse benefits for fishing port tourism.
